The Future of Public Values in the Algorithmic Society
The research programme Public Values in the Algorithmic Society (AlgoSoc) explores how automated decision-making systems and artificial intelligence can safeguard public values and human rights. Realising public values in AI and algorithms is more than a technological challenge—it is a profound societal one, deeply influenced by social, cultural, and institutional contexts. Public values evolve alongside technological and social transformations, often shaped by complex power dynamics. While regulatory frameworks worldwide, such as the EU AI Act, emphasise ethical, secure, and lawful AI, their focus remains largely technology-centric.
The AlgoSoc conference seeks to broaden this perspective, emphasising AI as a societal challenge and considering the broader ecosystem of actors and interactions that influence the realisation of public values in digital technologies. We warmly invite you to join us for two inspirational days of thought-provoking discussions and meaningful exchanges with leading experts and changemakers in the field!
Speakers
The AlgoSoc conference is an interdisciplinary event designed to inspire AI researchers, social scientists, and legal scholars, as well as policymakers, civil society advocates, and regulators alike. It features an impressive lineup of distinguished speakers, including leading scholars in law, philosophy, informatics, innovation, health, and the social sciences, alongside prominent experts from supervisory authorities, regulatory bodies, and advocacy groups.
